About www.markcad.com

by Mark Middlebrook

Who's MarkCAD? markcad.com is the Internet domain name for my CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) consulting business, Daedalus Consulting. "MarkCAD" is easier to spell and pronounce than "Daedalus", and "www.markcad.com" is easier to type than "www.daedalusconsulting.com".

What's www.markcad.com for? This Web site communicates my ideas, articles, programs, and sardonic editorializing to clients and other folks who use AutoCAD.

Why is this site so plain? In most enterprises, I subscribe to Ockham's razor ("non sunt multiplicanda entia praeter necessitatem" -- "entities are not to be multiplied beyond necessity"). I don't like banner ads, animated whirligigs, idiotic icons, weird backgrounds, and all of the other flotsam and jetsam that litter most Web sites. I do like to take pictures, so I've plastered a few of my photos on these pages in order that the site not be completely dull. I stole most of my site's design principles from Philip Greenspun's book Philip and Alex's Guide to Web Publishing.
